SAT Test Prep

Preparing for entrance exams can be a stressful process. Tutor Doctor Hawaii has the tools and the tutors to help make this process smooth and successful. In our test prep programs, students will learn test taking tips, ways to manage test anxiety, and provide ample opportunity to practice SAT style questions.

 The SAT is an exam designed to measure college readiness. Most colleges require the SAT or ACT in conjunction with the student’s application.

 Parts of the SAT

  • Math (Two sections: 1 permits calculator use the other does not)
  • Reading/Writing (Two sections: Reading Comprehension and Grammar and Editorial Skills)
  • Optional Essay

 SAT Scoring

Each section of the SAT has a possible score of 200-800. These scores are added together for a potential total score of 400-1600. THe optional essay is graded on three levels: reading, writing, and analysis. Two readers score each component on a scale of 1-4 and the scores are combined for a perfect possible score of 8/8/8

What Score Do You Need to Get Into College?

Each college has a different range of scores they will accept. Ivy League applicants score perfect to near perfect scores, but many colleges accept students with score ranges between 1000-1200. No matter where you plan on applying your chances for admission and scholarships will improve by preparing for the SAT.
