Amy Yamashiro – Learning Center Programs Manager

Miss Amy was born and raised in Kane’ohe, and has been teaching children of all ages for twenty years. She graduated from New York University with a degree in Music Education. An artist at heart, she is the mastermind behind many of our creations seen in our monthly play station themes, and now also manages all of the educational programs at Tutor Doctor’s learning center.

Sophie Cooperman – Tutoring Manager

Mrs. Sophie Cooperman is a kind and enthusiastic educator. Ms. Sophie is currently the Tutoring Manager at Tutor Doctor Hawaii. Sophie oversees a team of dedicated tutors, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure they deliver the highest quality instruction. Beyond her managerial duties, Sophie is deeply invested in the success of every student who walks through Tutor Doctor’s doors. Over the last 7 years, Sophie has worked with students, grades PreK-9, in both schools and clinics. Within these settings, Sophie has successfully taught and tutored many subjects to both special needs and neurotypical students with a variety of academic backgrounds. She takes the time to build rapport with students and their families, building trust and instilling confidence. Sophie ensures that both students and tutors receive the support they need to excel.

Madison Badua – Programs Specialist & Social Media Manager

Miss Madi has a Bachelor of Psychology with a focus on child and youth studies from the University of San Francisco. She has always loved working with children and has been a dance instructor for several years. She is the current lead teacher for Manoa Keiki Club and runs the social media accounts for Tutor Doctor.

Kaliah Nainoa – Executive Assistant & Administrative Assistant 

Ms. Kaliah Nainoa is currently a student at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa studying Civil and Environmental Engineering. Ms. Kaliah has worked with students ranging from elementary school to high school through educational summer camps and coaching. She is committed to making students’ learning experiences a fun and engaging experience based on the students interests and needs.

Jacianne Furuya – Assistant Teacher 

Miss Jacianne Furuya is a joyful and optimistic tutor. Jacianne has worked with students, grades Pre K-6, in clinics, schools, and homeschool environments. Jacianne enjoys working with children and supporting them through their educational needs. Jacianne adapts lessons to fit the student’s interests to keep young learners engaged in educational activities. She is currently the assistant teacher for Manoa Keiki Club and a tutor for our school contracts!

Cedric Ongjoco

Mr. Cedric Ongjoco is joining the world of education and is currently a substitute at local private high schools. Before he moved to Hawaii with his family, he used to work as a Biotech Engineer in San Diego. In college, he received a degree in biochemistry and worked as a part time tutor for sciences and mathematics. He has a passion for watching students grow, learn and achieve their “Aha” moment when struggling with their problems.

Kaliah Nainoa

Ms. Kaliah Nainoa is currently a student at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa studying Civil and Environmental Engineering. Kimeryn Zorilla

Ms. Kimeryn Zorilla is a patient and innovative educator. She is currently studying Second Language Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She has a passion for learning new languages and hopes to be a guide for students as well. Her experience as an after school care leader coupled with her education, has helped her practice creating effective lessons for students with various grade levels, proficiencies and backgrounds.

Kylie Otsuka

Ms. Kylie Otsuka was born and raised here on Oahu. She currently attends University of Hawaii at Manoa and is working towards her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. She has experience in teaching in elementary school classrooms with both general and special education. She tries her best to create individualized instruction that is also fun as she knows that no one learns exactly the same way. In the future, she would like to become a Speech Therapist for elementary students.

Kyle Woo

Mr. Kyle is currently a graduate student at UH Manoa. He is attaining his Master’s in Communication Sciences & Disorders and intends on becoming a school-based speech-language pathologist. Kyle has always wanted to work in the educational field and give back to the community by providing others the high quality of education and care that he received when he was younger. Mr. Kyle understands that every child learns differently and teachers are sometimes unable to attend to the different needs of their students. Therefore, through Tutor Doctor, Mr. Kyle hopes to be of service in helping your child learn through personalized services and care.

Jenika Wilson

Miss Jenika primarily worked as a reading & writing tutor for the last five years. She has worked with a variety of students of all ages, ranging from elementary level to college level. Miss Jenika is originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, where she began her tutoring career at Salt Lake Community College back in 2018. In light of the pandemic, Miss Jenika began offering at-home tutoring services for elementary-level homeschooling, which has been incredibly helpful for many families. 

Miss Jenika is described as encouraging, patient, and fun. She particularly enjoys working with students who have dyslexia and other learning disabilities. She understands the challenges of having dyslexia, and her goal is to help students overcome these obstacles. It’s clear that Miss Jenika is passionate about learning, and she aims to instill this same love for learning in all of her students.

Mackenna Carrizosa

Ms. Mackenna is a dedicated and compassionate educator currently residing in Oahu. She is currently in her second year at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where she is committed to furthering her expertise in the field of education. Prior to moving to the island, Ms. Mackenna gained valuable experience in tutoring students with diverse learning needs. Her background also includes active participation in various educational programs, including summer camps. With a passion for fostering academic growth, Ms. Mackenna excels in tutoring a spectrum of subjects, specializing in both STEM subjects and English Language Arts. Ms. Mackenna is excited to be part of the Tutor Doctor Team and looks forward to sharing her knowledge in a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Sarah Helms

Ms. Sarah Helms is passionate about fostering a creative learning environment that teaches students to think intuitively. She has experience in Economics and in the arts, which in combination, offer a unique perspective on thinking creatively and problem solving within the field of mathematics. Her experience substituting for the Honolulu district, coaching and refereeing young athletes of all ages allows her to guide her students toward success and achieve positive results while having fun.

Tasman Mattox

Ms. Tasman Mattox is passionate about meeting students where they’re at and creating an environment where learning is fun. She previously taught English in Fuzhou, China to students of all ages, and tutored writing, reading, and language arts at the university level. She has worked with children in classrooms, childcare centers, and homes. In addition, Ms. Tasman has experience tutoring mathematics through the 6th grade level. She prides herself on her compassion, adaptability, and curiosity. Tasman looks forward to working with students and parents to create a beneficial and enjoyable learning path.

Grace Keppen

Ms. Grace is a passionate educator currently pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. With a strong background in working with both pre-elementary and elementary-aged children, she brings a wealth of hands-on experience to her teaching practice. Driven by her love for child development principles, Ms. Grace is dedicated to honing her skills and knowledge in this field. She wholeheartedly invests herself in understanding the intricacies of how children learn and grow, always striving to create meaningful learning experiences. Ms. Grace’s teaching philosophy centers around a nurturing and charismatic approach. She believes in embracing each student’s unique personality and catering to their diverse learning styles. Through her dedication and enthusiasm, Ms. Grace aims to create a positive and engaging classroom environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential.

Farhaz Tarin 

Ms. Farhaz Tarin, a pre-med student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, is committed to both education and community service. Her dedication to fostering a love for learning among children led her to serve as a teacher’s assistant at Punahou summer school and volunteer with the Between the Lines Club at RHS. In this club, she gained valuable experience supervising and inspiring young readers at Lincoln Elementary School. Alongside her passion for science and healthcare, Ms. Farhaz specializes in teaching algebra and biology. With a genuine desire to help others, she strives to cultivate a supportive learning environment, forging meaningful connections with her students and tailoring coursework to promote their personal growth and academic success.

Jacob Frankel

Mr. Jacob Frankel was born and raised on the Big Island and O’ahu and later attended college in Western Massachusetts. Mr. Jacob has experience working with upper level students in the public school system in Chicago and as a wilderness trip guide teaching kids leadership skills in Minnesota. Mr. Jacob loves helping students to connect with their natural intelligence and curiosity, so they can experience the joy of learning. He believes that learning happens best when students feel seen, heard, and empowered.

Brittny Zeeman

Ms. Brittny was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. After graduating from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa with a Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Studies and a Minor in English and Psychology, she began working at an ABA clinic in Kailua. Ms. Brittny later received her teaching license and has been part of the DOE system since 2021 as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional working with children with disabilities. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Social Work. Ms. Brittny has a passion for supporting individuals in finding their passions and encouraging them to do their best. She has worked with all ages,  and her favorite part of working with people is the lasting relationships she can make.
