Private School Entry/SSAT Tutoring 

Tutor Doctor Hawaii offers students and families support as they navigate the often stressful private school application process. Between SSAT testing, the written application, and interviews, there’s a lot to prepare for! Our tutors have expertise in local school application processes, and are sensitive to their students’ individual needs and personalities. They can lend students moral support, and focus their efforts on achieving concrete goals. We know that for every student, succeeding on private school entrance exams takes hard work and a village of support. We’re honored and excited to be part of that network for Tutor Doctor families.  

During SSAT and private school entrance tutoring, students will learn test-taking strategies, time-management skills, and tips on how to handle test and interview anxiety. They will also learn how to identify important information, and review any relevant gaps in their academic knowledge.   . This process is designed to be supportive, engaging, and rigorous.

For best results, we recommend families contact us with ample time before applications and testing. There are exceptions, but this process generally works best over a 6-month or longer time frame. 

The SSAT

Lower Level SSAT

• For students applying to 4th and 5th grade entry
• The lower level SSAT has one math section, one reading section, one verbal section, one writing section, one break and one ungraded experimental section.
• Total test time: 2 hours and 5 minutes

 Middle Level 

• For students applying to 6th or 7th grade entry
• The lower level SSAT has one math section, one reading section, one verbal section, one writing section, two breaks and one ungraded experimental section.
• Total test time: 3 hours and 5 minutes

 Upper Level SSAT

• For students applying to 8th through 11th grade entry
• The lower level SSAT has one math section, one reading section, one verbal section, one writing section, two breaks and one ungraded experimental section.
• Total test time: 3 hours and 5 minutes

What Score Do You Need to Get Into Private School?

Each private school has a different range of scores they will accept. While SSAT scores are important, other elements such as the interview, letters of recommendation, writing samples, and extracurriculars are just as essential. No matter where you plan on applying, your chances for admission and interview success will improve by preparing for the SSAT.

TUITION AND FEES

We offer both online and in-class tutoring at our Learning Center at Manoa Marketplace.  Scheduling is flexible based on your availability and the tutor you work with.

Tutoring rates effective January 1, 2023

• *SSAT prep 6 hour minimum package – $68/hour 
• *SAT prep 6 hour minimum package – $79/hour 

*Additional material cost to apply for test prep tutoring

Our enrollment packages are designed to partner with students towards long term goals and academic improvements rather than brief intercessions of tutoring.  We are currently waiving the one-time $65 registration fee for all new students.
