We love Math at Tutor Doctor Hawaii, but we know it can be a high-anxiety subject for many students. It’s easy for kids who struggle with Math in school to conclude they are not “Math people,” and will never succeed in the subject. While we recognize it may not become everyone’s favorite subject, we believe every student can progress in Math with the right support and approach, and hopefully learn to enjoy it.
Part of what makes math challenging is its cumulative nature; it builds progressively unit after unit, year after year. If a student misses key concepts in one or more units, they may fall behind and lose confidence in their overall ability. Time-pressured tests and quizzes can produce anxiety, and students often encounter a one-size-fits all approach to instruction and learning.
One-on-one tutoring at Tutor Doctor Hawaii can help students identify gaps in their comprehension, and fill them. It also offers a less pressurized setting to review units or work through key concepts while exploring multiple approaches and methods for understanding. Fun games and real world applications make math more relatable and purposeful, and tutors can help students develop test taking strategies in order to help improve their performance.
